INTIMATE ALIEN (2009)

Human beings are individualistic batteries that need to be recharged. Sometimes we encounter “energy zappers” and sometimes exchanges with people can revitalize a sense of meaning and unity.

In this duet two opposing entities cultivate a disonant rift by pushing limitation with freedom and pulling at intimacy with forces of alienation. The choreo-language, sound and lighting design invokes a passage of sensations where imagination transforms body language into dream like patterns. Each dancer’s occupation of individual place amplifies the vivid space of relations in between self, other and the environment they share.

Taurus and Jade met at Victorian College of the Arts whilst engaging in their Masters of Choreography research. During this time they began to recognize that despite their extremely different life and dance experiences their artistic rationale had intriguing synergy - being in solitude, exploring issues of self (dramatic, organic, rawness, purity, obsession, intensity, dreams, secrets, heart pulse and will power) and following intuition to unravel new ways of being in the world.

TAURUS ASHLEY - choreographer, performer, teacher. A commercial dancer for many years. Trained in classical ballet, jazz, tap and African Dance and Black Light Theatre. His credits include: Disney on Parade, London’s Talk of the Town: The Ronnie Corbett Show, The Moulin Rouge. Locally they include: Firing Squad, Cats, Red Hot & Rhonda, Don Quixote, Smokey Joe’s Café (Dance Captain), TV Variety Productions & Corporate Events. In 2005-2006 Taurus completed Masters of Choreoraphy at VCA, making two works on himself, The 8th House, & The 12th House, a duet for two men called Jungle Buddies and a group work titled Zed.
